Descriptions:
Iyengar Yoga
Iyengar Yoga, created by B.K.S. Iyengar, is a form of yoga known for
its use of props, such as belts and blocks, as aids in performing asanas
(postures).
Iyengar Yoga, a form of Hatha Yoga, focuses on the structural alignment
of the physical body through the development of asanas and is characterized
by great attention to detail and precise focus on body alignment. Through
the practice of a system of asanas, it aims to unite the body, mind
and spirit for health and well being.
Iyengar pioneered the use of "props" such as bolsters, blocks,
straps, and even sand bags, which function as aids allowing beginners
to experience asanas more easily and fully than might otherwise be possible
without several years of practice. Props also allow tired or ill students
to enjoy the benefits of many asanas via fully "supported"
methods requiring less muscular effort.
Vinyasa Yoga
Vinyasa Yoga is a moving yoga practice which links one asana, or pose,
to the next, through the breath. Vinyasa helps to orchestrate a balance
of strength and flexibility within the body, merging movement and stillness.
Breathing becomes an art form in this practice, in which movement and
breath cease to occur separately, turning the practice into a rhythmic
meditative dance.
Vinyasa styles vary by class and instructor. Classes
may incorporate various traditions to achieve the goals of that particular
class. Styles may include Prana Vinyasa™, Anusara,
Ashtanga-based movements.
Vinyasa generates heat in the body, which allows for
more freedom of exploration in the asanas. Vinyasa I is taught at a
slower pace, with more detailed instruction and is an excellent class
for those interested in learning more about Vinyasa. Vinyasa II is more
advanced, taught at a faster pace and includes more challenging postures,
including inversions.
Vinyasa is for yoga students with some experience.
Hatha
This accessible class moves at a moderate pace, introducing traditional
and innovative yoga concepts in a format that is clear, fun, and easy
to understand. We will move through postures using subtle pulsations
that help the body release and strengthen organically. This class
is suitable for beginner and intermediate practioners, with a skill
level slightly more challenging than our Beginning Yoga class, and slightly
less challenging than Vinyasa.
Anusara Yoga
Anusara Yoga is a modern school of yoga started by John Friend
in 1997. The emphasis of the school is on a set of "Universal Principles
of Alignment" which underlie all postures, "heart opening"
postures and the spiritual/meditative benefits of hatha yoga.
Ashtanga Yoga
This invigorating practice of Yoga involves synchronizing the
breath with a progressive series of postures—a process which produces
intense internal heat and a purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles
and organs. The result is improved circulation, a light and strong body,
and a calm mind. Short Form Ashtanga is a shortened version of the traditional
Primary Series of postures.
Ashtanga is for yoga students with some
experience.
Kundalini Yoga
Kundalini Yoga is a practice that has been experienced and given through enlightened souls for many thousands of years in India. It is a holistic practice that provides us with the technology which can lead to a healthy body, peaceful and happy mind and connect us to our essence as human beings. Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan consists of excercises or postures (Asana) combined with special breathing (Pranayama), hand and finger gestures (Mudra), body locks (Bhanda), chanting (Mantra) and meditation, together and in sequence to create exact and specific effects. Kundalini Yoga is the supreme technology to awaken your awareness and take you into your original self. It is a natural unfolding of your own true nature.
Power Yoga
This athletic and vigorous form of yoga is practiced in a very warm
room, designed to facilitate sweating freely, thereby detoxifying and
purifying the body as we strengthen and lengthen muscles. Various styles
of yoga will be incorporated to create an athletic, challenging and
fun practice that will leave you invigorated.
Beginning Yoga
Our Beginning Yoga class is suitable for those who have never done yoga,
as well as those looking for a more gentle, slow-paced class, which
focuses on learning the basics. Our Hatha and Iyengar classes
are also suitable for beginners.
Pilates
Pliates is a system of movements designed to create balance between strength and felxibility, develop a taller, more balanced posture, and release muscular tension, all while toning the muscles for a healthy body and appearance. Pilates focuses on correct breathing and execution of form and on the development of the core muscles. This class is a great way to tone and strengthen from the inside out.
